Frequently Asked Question

A few people have noticed that their characters do not heal when entering the tavern at night. Nor do they see any visible option for resting. Entering the tavern at night only replenishes energy and mana. To heal your party you must go to the temple, cast a healing spell, or perform a healing feat.

So far so good. Got a party up to level 4, only complaints so far are long startup time (over 90 seconds at near-100% CPU on an Athlon 1.6 GHz) and a glitch in prices for selling items with high Charisma (you get less than with low Cha). The high difficulty so far is something I can live with, haven't explored beyond the store & review board yet.

Gah...there needs to be a cheaper alternative for health recharge..implement some sort of rest option or you will turn away some 50% of potential players..other than that, kudos=)

All it takes is a little time and effort at the beginning,be cautious who you fight, run away a lot and return to the inn frequently,my party is currently level 13,have fully explored sewers level one and gained entry to sewers level 2 which i am currently exploring

There seems to be no way to create a new post so I'll leave a comment on this existing one.
Spent a week or two playing the game and completed it. Good going on creating the game!

I expect the hard part was starting out initially and working out where the pub and healer was. Once that was sorted out, it was pretty easy to continue.

What needs tinkering:
- Most of the skills/spells are level based. This needs to be capped, as it made the game really easy as you advanced levels. I used a paladin as the main healer as he could heal more than the mages, and the monk as the striker (using Ki Strike could cause 50-60 damage).
- The game needs to ability to prevent fleeing. I managed to flee from most mobs in Moloch's tower and got to him after battling a few mobs.
- Allow the player to save the game after completing it

Other than that, thanks for creating the game. Sent me back to Bard's tale times (I could never finish BT3!) a few decades ago. :)

Cool! RPG's are really hard to do because of all the content/playtesting. I suspected it might've been too easy but hard for me to find out for sure. (I'm going back to tactical wargames)
Anyway, thanks for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed it to the point of finishing the game.

Where are the dungeons located?

I've searched around the town, kicking in doors and such, and can't find it.

I'm now around level 10 for each character in my party, and still haven't reached a dungeon, doing it by fighting at night in the streets.

OK, nevermind about my post above about where the dungeons are located. I found the Sewers. For those who need to know, they are located in a building about 4 or 5 doors south of the Pub.

Anyway, my new question is if there exists, or will exist, a detailed listing of all the special items/weapons/armor and how they are different from what is the norm.

I.E. What's the difference between a Heroes Helm, War Helm, and normal Helm? What does an ear trumpet do? And so on.

I don't think I have a list of all the items, I might've during development but now I don't.

I think you can examine items which should tell a little about it, and also equipping it will show any differences in AC, etc.

The ear trumpet allows a deaf character to hear bard songs, etc.

Feel free to ask what other items do.

Great Game, I really like it, thou Im having some trouble now, I have finished all the sewer levels, and found all the clues, and I went to kings cross at night found another clue, and still have no idea how to get access to any other dungeon besides the sewers any advice?

Thanx

Good work so far!

Remember, the clue is Eagle's cross. Try exploring eagle street and the monk statue at night. You can find it on the map.

If you still have trouble finding it, let me know...

...and the next dungeon is a real killer, so I hope you're high level!

I am stumped on the Sewers. I have been all over all 3 levels and been in every room that I was aware of, or could find using the map pack, and I still have not found a boss or any sort of dungeon end, what am I missing?

I was going to answer when I saw you resolved your problem. Feel free to ask questions! There's not really a boss in the sewers, just clues on how to find the next dungeon. And let me tell you, there's definitely a boss in the next dungeon...

Awesome game so far! It brings back memories of when games where designed more for fun than just eye candy!

My party is only lvl 8 so far from exploring the town (War, Pal, Thf, Ran, Mag, Mag) and they are starting to feel like they are almost ready for more difficult areas (sewers I assume?)

I do have a couple questions though:

1: Where exactly, do you obtain "Holy Water" ?

2: Are there plans for an expansion to this game?

Thanks again for such a great game!

Nevermind on that 1st question...I found some in a chest in the 1st level of the sewers. :^)

Which brings to mind a different question, just out of curiosity....are the contents of the chests like these random from a pool of possible items, or are they all "fixed" ?

Hey there! Glad you're enjoying the game so far!

Yup, if I remember correctly the chests in the game all contain random items from certain subsets. Thinking back on that, it may have not been the best idea but I really wanted each player's experience to be unique.

At the moment, there are no plans for an expansion. I've been really busy the past couple years on various other projects, but I would love to come back to this genre of game and make another -- this time using all the cool stuff I learned from WT.

Keep on going, and let me know if you have more questions! Good Luck!

Awesome, thanks for the reply!

If you ever DO decide to work on another game project of this genre, rest assured there will be many grateful fans out here waiting in great anticipation of your results!

Games like Bard's Tale and early Might and Magic were my favorites. The "step" based movement square by square along with the turn based combat allowed one to relax and "get into" the game worl with your imagination, and not feel like a twitch-based shooter or something...

To be honest however, there were a few exceptions to that "rule" for me. For example, I also loved Dungeon Master...one of the few "real time" combat RPGs that I felt kept close to the "feeling" of old RPG games in that even though creatue movement and combat was in real time, it never felt like a shooter or an "eye candy" game, so much as a fantasy world you could still use your imagination with and imerse yourself into.

Oh, I actually do have another question (lol) I've made it to the tower (finally) and shortly after hitting the 2nd level, one of the battles left one of my characters with "amnesia" but, I couldn't find any mention of this ailment in the manual, nor do any of my caster's spells seem to adress this.

Does this status wear off on its own or when someone gets this, do I just need to go ahead and leave for the temple to start the tower over every time (assuming I want to try the final boss with one or more out of commision)?

In any case, thanks again for some very enjoyable hours with your much appreciated game!

Lol! I remember that now! Amnesia, sucks for casters. Hmmm, I think that is fixed at the Temple. Do you remember what monster caused that?

But yeah, if you want to try Moloch with a fully prepared party, you'll want to kill those guys first and don't let them have a shot at your caster.

I totally agree with you on the old school gaming! One of the things that made the original BT sooo fun for me was that I had to make my own maps of the dungeons, and I really wanted to recreate that feeling for this game. My maps would really help the game feel more real since they were hand drawn, with my own side notes, etc.

As for turn-based, I love it. I'm a fan of realtime of course too, but turn-based for me makes the game a little less stressful. I'm sad the newer Final Fantasy games have turned to realtime but I guess that's where the market is at.

GL with Moloch, he's pretty tough, but from the speed of your progress, it sounds like your party is too.

Hi, I wanted to play this game but I have difficuly getting it started on my windows vista machine. Is there any known trick to get it running?
It starts, hogs some CPU time but it fails to start. I waited several minutes but nothing happens... ?
